Preventing an Eating Disorder

Have you caught your teenage daughter sucking in her stomach while taking a selfie or living on strawberries before a dance?  OR, Have you noticed she’s gaining some unhealthy weight while studying for finals but you would NEVER  say anything because you don’t want to plant any ideas that might trigger insecurities or worse- an eating disorder?

Eating Disorders are not phases and they are not just vanity.  There are things to look out for with your child if you suspect she may be headed in an unhealthy direction.  Getting ahead of it and asking for help will be far more beneficial than any “harm” you think you will cause if talk to her.  These years are very precious.  Hormones are changing and without proper nourishment, your daughter can do serious harm.

Some warning signs:

  • Pushing Food Around
  • Making Excuses to Skip Meals
  • Wearing Baggier Clothing
  • Being Unusually Cold or Hot
  • Disappearing After Meals
  • Hiding Food
  • Eating at Strange Hours
