28 Jun Your Brain on MCTs
“Ok, so what’s the deal with this trendy oil that is claiming to boost my brainpower?!”
Here’s the short on the long, er, medium chain triglyceride oil. It’s more easily broken down than the long chain triglycerides we typically eat. This means it hits our blood stream quicker and can give you a little “brain boost” and energy if your blood sugar is dropping or you are feeling foggy or sluggish. By promoting the release of our fullness hormone (Leptin) it can ward off hunger. It also has abut 10% fewer calories than olive oil, nuts and avocados with the same fat benefits. Further, if you are following a lower carbohydrate diet in order to burn fat, this oil can convert to ketones and help keep you in a fat burning state (especially while exercising). You can just down a TBSP raw OR it’s a great oil to use for a dressing. Just don’t cook with it because it has a very low smoke point!
